Sweating and Serving Day One

Today was our teams first day at Doulos Discovery School. We toured the beautiful campus and learned more about their unique educational model. The school grades begin at Pre K three all the way to High School Seniors (Twelfth Grade). All learning is Christ centered, hands on, bilingual (English & Spanish) learning. Fifty percent of the students are in the Sponsorship Program and the other fifty percent are tuition based. This is an incredibly unique model for DR Schools.

After our school tour, we did a cultural assimilation game very similar to the Game of Life

Then we had an authentic DR lunch of pollo (chicken) with beans and rice. After lunch we got to work. Part of our team began constructing a wall in one of the classrooms while another team painted the Gaga Pit while the others moved desks, chairs & boxes in the various classrooms. We did a lot of sweating and we loved every minute of serving our missionaries Rachel and Jon Sawyer and Doulos

We finished our work later in the afternoon and then headed back to the house to clean up for dinner at Sponsorship homes.
Our teams went in groups of two to host homes for dinner. It was such a fun time and definitely allowed us to be experience life in Jarabacoa DR
For the Schager family this was such a special time because they have been sponsor a little boy named Samuel. They were able to go to his house for dinner. After dinner we all headed home for a good night sleep. We had such a great day!
Walking home to the house. We do a lot of walking and we love t!
