Day 5 has arrived!

 Day 5 has arrived!!

This morning, we finished the mural! We weren’t expecting to, but it got done! It looks so beautiful, and is very encouraging. It’s already having an impact! When we were done, there was a Tico riding his motorcycle past the wall. He stopped and told us it looked great. The Hope Center staff told us this is one of the biggest murals that they had ever done, and to that we say: “We’re from Texas, and everything is bigger in Texas!”.

After that, we had our regular time with the kids. The gospel was presented by Denise today, and it went great! They kids were much more attentive than we expected. We also asked them about previous Bible stories from the beginning of the week, and they remembered! Praise God!

One cool thing that we did with the kids was Character Quality Certificates. All of our team got together and wrote down the names of all the kids, and a word to describe them. These words were unique to the child, and no one had the same word. At the end of the day, the kids were called up one by one and given the certificate and affirmed in what we saw in them. It went SO well! Something awesome was that we saw the kids affirming each other as well. One would say “I don’t think I’m the word they gave me” and their friends would say “Are you kidding? What about this or this?”. It was a blessing to see the kids affirming each other. It was also a blessing for our team to empower these kids and tell them what we see in them.

We have loved working with Hope Partners because they are not only super organized and fun, but they also taught our team a lot about poverty (what it looks like, why it happens, and how we can help). They also did a really good debrief tonight about how Jesus calls us to be selflessly uncomfortable, how we were able to step into that this week, and that we should do that at home.

This week has been a blast— we don’t want to leave!!

Painting the wall (and spilled paint again.. oops!)
